French rent review calculator (IRL)
If the lease has a review clause, the rent excluding charges can be reviewed once a year by the annual change in the rent reference index (IRL) published by INSEE.
Rules applied
- At most one review a year, on the date set in the lease or, failing that, on the lease anniversary.
- The landlord must ask the tenant for the review. Asked after that date, it applies from the request, with no back-dating. After one year, that year’s review is lost.
- Index values for mainland France. From Q3 2022 to Q1 2024 the annual rise was capped at 3.5%; Corsica and the overseas departments had other caps.
- Class F or G: the rent cannot be reviewed if the lease was signed, renewed or tacitly renewed on or after 24 August 2022 (1 July 2024 in the overseas departments).
